Graem Whyte and his wife Faina Lerman founded Popps Packing in 2007, a former meat packing plant in Hamtramck, Michigan, which they have renovated into their home, studios, gallery, and residency program.  In 2011, they added two adjunct houses across the street, which became Poppa Joe’s Guest House and the Popps Emporium Project Space.  Last year, they saw several friends purchase homes within close proximity. Popps and these other properties are located in the northwest corner of the city of Hamtramck, and expand into Detroit northwest of Popps, so Whyte and Lerman lovingly refer to this increasing collection of spaces as The Northwest Territories.

The objects in Whyte’s new exhibit represent an abstracted variety of infrastructural, instrumental, recreational, and mythological components that arise at the birth of ‘community’.

In conjunction with Whyte’s new solo exhibit, Faina Lerman will be showing a collection of drawings at Re:View’s Gallery 2 Space. Both exhibits open on Saturday, September 7, with a reception from 6 pm to 9 pm.
