Organized by Iris Eichenberg and Sarah Turner, with support from Simone DeSousa Gallery, MoreLand takes its inspiration from an essential community stronghold, a site of function, curiosity and learning: the hardware store. MoreLand continues a long-tested assertion that in the right hands, objects that are useful and practical can also be thoughtful, evocative and poetic.

For MoreLand, 24 art, craft, and designed-based makers were invited to reimagine the things they love in hardware stores. While the makers are international – working in seven countries, but regularly traveling and collaborating in many more – MoreLand reveals a universal love for what is straightforward, functional and direct. Some of the objects are truly of use, others only remind us of function. All of them reveal the artist’s deep affection for hardware stores. In their hands, simple objects – funnels, dustpans, sponges, saw-horses, door stops – are remade, revealing their subtle beauties and hidden possibilities.

Keeping with EDITION’s goal to show limited-edition art and design objects, MoreLand presents work made as a short-run retail series by each artist. Artists were asked to make a minimum of twelve pieces per series, but with the attention of one-of-a-kind work. This approach offers work priced from $2.00 – $2000.00. MoreLand is a collection of good, useful, crafted design. It is also a connection to an international community of new and established makers. It is a reminder of how modest everyday objects can delight and endure.
