Henry James Haver Crissman’s upcoming exhibition in EDITION, titled “New Balance,” will feature a body of works spanning from ceramics and assemblage, to painting. Through the replication, manipulation, and combination of personal, pop-cultural, art historical, kitsch, commercial and material subjects, Crissman distills and communes with complexities of the contemporary human condition; using art as a means for reflection, liberation, and solidarity in the midst of it all.

Henry James Haver Crissman earned a BFA in Craft from the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, MI, in 2012, and an MFA in Ceramics from Alfred University in Alfred, NY, in 2015. He often works collaboratively with Hamilton Poe. Crissman is currently an adjunct professor at the College for Creative Studies, and at Eastern Michigan University, and will be teaching at SAIC in the fall semester of 2019. He and his wife, artist Virginia Rose Torrence, currently live and work in Hamtramck, MI.
