Ordinary objects often gain subjective meaning and value from their innate ability to activate personal associations to memories, emotions and events from the past. In his most recent body of work, a series of domestic objects and scenes, Shirley explores his own personal connections and experiences in relation to material, memory and meaning.

Adam Shirley received his BFA degree from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan and a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Shirley has been recently awarded the Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship. Adam Shirley’s work has been shown nationally and internationally, including a solo exhibition at GalerieGallery, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 2015.
