Matéria is pleased to present Form&Seek: Poetic, a solo exhibition of all new works by Detroit-based designer Bilge Nur Saltik.

Form&Seek design studio, led by Bilge Nur Saltik, focuses on the exploration of novel processes and the integration of contemporary craft techniques with local influences from around the world. Placing a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, materials, and the creative journey, Form&Seek studio is dedicated to crafting one-of-a-kind, functional, and whimsical objects.

The exhibition, in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the design studio and the 2023 Detroit Month of Design, presents Form&Seek’s latest collection of objects that blur the lines between craft and technology. As part of long-time research and experimentation, the design studio explores the meaning of contemporary craft.

The new collection expands on a wide range of crafted products, from conventional products prototyped with new technologies to products that play with natural formations and uses of the material. Each thought-provoking, poetic design object has a strong character and personality that displays the personal mark of the designer, whether through digital tools or hand tools.

Form&Seek: Poetic opens to the public on Saturday, September 9, with a reception with the designer from 6 to 8 pm.

Detroit-based Turkish-born Bilge Nur Saltik’s practice, Form&Seek, was established in 2013, shortly after she received her master’s degree in Product Design from the Royal College of Art in London.  Nur’s intent is to incorporate culture with contemporary design. Pairing the old with the new, she works with traditional craftsmen–tapping into their age-old techniques and knowledge–and introduces them to new materials and fabrication processes.
