In Vessel #1, Mayse explores the intersection of contemporary digital design language and the utilitarian. The proposed aesthetics borrow the plane and the line from digital mapping media, but formally is based on elements of the classical Greco-Roman vase. These elements have been broken down, faceted, exploded, and reassembled in an attempt to understand and re-imagine traditional pottery.
A mold is made from the original form and each piece is slip-cast in a high-fire porcelain clay body. From the mold, each piece goes through an extensive cleaning process. This, coupled with the highest quality porcelain, ensures the best quality product.
