This is the second of three <em>Detroit Saves the World <\/em>stories, a series that\u2019s an experiment in using art and storytelling to help raise awareness about climate change. Though the stories are fiction, the hope is they will inspire similar stories in the real world!<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Detroit Saves the World<\/em> series will eventually be made into short films as well. The comic book version can be thought of as an alternative to the traditional storyboarding process used in film design. <em>Detroit Saves the World<\/em> <em>(Girl Power Style)<\/em> was written by filmmaker Diane Cheklich and illustrated by visual artist Mark Sarmel.<\/p>\n<p>Limited edition of 50 signed and numbered copies sold exclusively through Simone DeSousa EDITION.<\/p>\n<p>Diane Cheklich is an independent film director and 2014 Kresge Artist Fellow. Her award-winning feature film,\u00a0<em>Offshore,<\/em>\u00a0is an Indo-American movie that was shot in both the U.S. and India. Ms. Cheklich has also written and directed several short films, including the award-winning\u00a0<em>Doctor Reddy<\/em>, which is in distribution through Ouat Media, and\u00a0<em>LATE<\/em>, which has played at film festivals around the world and is in distribution through the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Detroit Saves the World (Girl Power Style) continues the theme of unexpected heroes, in this case the popular girls at a Detroit high school, who save the world from climate change.
