Berg + Berg (Iris Eichenberg and Alberte Tranberg)

Iris Eichenberg works as an artist, educator, part-time curator and co-organized of art-related events. She is the Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Metalsmithing Department at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. In addition to her studio work and teaching, Iris regularly lectures, serves as a visiting critic and leads workshops in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America.  Eichenberg has received awards to support and recognize the quality of her work from a number of institutions: Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture, Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, Herbert Hofmann Prize, Gerrit Rietveld Academy Award, and two residencies at The European Ceramic Center in Den Bosch.

Eichenberg’s work can be found in various museums including The Cooper-Hewitt (New York), The Museum of Arts and Design (New York), The Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), the Schmuck Museum Pforzheim, the Fondation National d’Art Contemporain (Paris), and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (Texas). Her work is also collected by private foundations and exhibited in solo and group exhibitions all over the world.

Alberte Tranberg is a metalworker and welder from Copenhagen, who moved to Michigan to pursue an MFa at Cranbrook Academy of Art in the Metalsmithing Department. She came to the US straight from the sewer; Alberte worked at a water treatment plant, maintaining machines and valves, and developing and producing plant parts, before coming to Michigan. She has an interest in interiors and the way which things are put together – creating a relationship between use, or just the reference to utility, and structure. She is interested in how these aspects support each other most fluently in everyday things. Her upbringing surrounded by Scandinavian architecture influences her work and sense of space as a maker.  Working alongside Iris Eichenberg has led to a friendship and collaboration shown in MoreLand as BERG+BERG.

Alberte is in Michigan on a Fulbright grant and has shown her things locally at the Detroit Artist Market, at Eastern Michigan University, and at Mercedes Benz Headquarters in Farmington Hills.
