Adam Shirley

Design

Limited Editions

2013

Steel

8.5 (h) x 3.5 (d) inches

This unique object was part of Adam Shirley’s multi-object 2013 installation The One and The Many.

Adam Shirley draws inspiration from the paintings of Giorgio Morandi and the idea of perceiving the world through a singular material. In his three-dimensional still life, “the one and the many,” Shirley explores notions of perception and understanding through the process of making multiples of a single object. His objects appear both familiar and foreign, suggesting they are the physical realization of thought and observation.

Adam Shirley earned his BFA from College of Creative Studies (1993) and his MFA in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2010). Since graduating Adam has exhibited in a number of group, two-person, and solo shows in Detroit, New York, The Netherlands, and Chicago. Adam has received a number of awards such as The Louis Comfort Tiffany Award.
