Travis Lewis was born in Portland Oregon, the son of a preacher. His family moved to Michigan in 1981 where Travis currently resides. Always having a love for art but not having the money to attend college Travis instead studied to be a bush pilot as well as a firefighter. However, after having developed narcolepsy, and not being able to work in either field, moved to England as a missionary where he stayed for five years. During that time, he traveled extensively through Africa, Asia, and Europe where he developed a broader view of the world and the global community. After returning from England in 2001, Travis’ desire to study art was rekindled and he attended Wayne State University where he earned his BFA in metalsmithing followed by an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of art. Currently and in addition to being an artist, Travis works as an adjunct professor at both Rochester College and The Art Institute of Michigan. His work has been seen in Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Munich, Nijmegen, Belgium, S. Korea, and various places here in the United States.
