Cast Iron

Alberte is an educated metal worker and welder, born in 1990 Copenhagen, Denmark. She recently graduated with a Master of Fine Art from Cranbrook Academy of Art, and is now living and working in the Detroit area.

“The aluminum and cast iron Plates are made as a minimal gesture of vesselness. These flat surfaces perform a caring act of being able to hold something even without fulfilling this promise. The more or less distorted imprints of touch may deceivingly make the plates feel malleable and confuse the experience of a process and material we usually don’t handle so intimately.

Concerned about the notion of home, and the things that define that space, I make as an attempt to stretch the poetic limits of form and function of the design objects and settings I use everyday. And as a certified metal fabricator and welder from Copenhagen I am building works having been inundated with design and architecture from where I was brought up.”
