Slip-cast black porcelain with black matte glaze
3 x 7 x 6 inches
Continuing a series of work that utilizes the artist’s childhood home as both site and source; Island and Sandbox seeks to
connect notions around the subtle relationships found within the day dreams of interiors and exteriors, as well as
dislocations within the bodies of presence and longing. The forms were created by temporarily excavating plants around
the artist’s childhood yard, and transforming the subterranean voids into black porcelain slip cast bowls. In this sense the
work maps a specific footprint and place, shifting essential unseen root system into light functional vessel.
